On this page
You decide what happens to your personal information. This page explains each choice you have, what our website settings do, and how to ask us to see, correct or delete what we hold. You can set your preferences for this website below. For the full picture, please also read our privacy policy and our children’s data page.
Your settings for this website
In brief
We do not sell personal information. We do not share it for advertising. This website uses analytics cookies (Google Analytics) only if you allow them, and never advertising or tracking cookies. We honour Global Privacy Control. You may withdraw your consent, unsubscribe from email, or ask to see, correct or delete your information at any time, at no cost.
Essential setting
Essential storage is needed for the website to work and is always on. It is used only to remember the choices you make on this page or in the cookie banner, so that we do not ask you again on every visit. It does not track you, it is not used for advertising and it is not sent to us.
Analytics setting
Analytics helps us understand how the website is used, for example which pages families visit most. When you turn it on, this website loads Google Analytics through Google Tag Manager, from Google LLC. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser (named _ga and _ga_ followed by an identifier, which last up to two years unless you clear them) and records the pages you view, how you arrived, your type of device and browser and your approximate location. It never receives your name or what you type into our forms, and we tell Google not to use it for advertising. It is off unless you turn it on, here or in the banner. When you turn it off, we stop loading it and remove its cookies from this website.
Marketing setting
Marketing tools would be used to measure or personalize advertising. We do not use any, so there is nothing to turn on. We will never use marketing or advertising tools on pages or services for children, or with information about children.
Where your choices are stored
When you save your choices, they are stored in your own browser, using its local storage, together with the time you saved them. They are not sent to us, and we cannot see them. Because they are stored in the browser, they apply only to that browser on that device. If you use another browser or device, clear your browsing data or use a private window, you may need to set them again.
Global Privacy Control
Global Privacy Control (GPC) is a setting in some browsers and browser extensions that tells websites you do not want your personal information sold or shared. When this website detects a GPC signal, it treats it as a valid request to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information and of any analytics or marketing tools for that browser. The analytics and marketing settings are switched off and locked while the signal is on, and a note below confirms that we have applied it. You do not need to do anything else. To send the signal, turn on GPC in your browser’s privacy settings or install an extension that supports it.
Withdrawing your consent
You may withdraw your consent at any time. To stop receiving email from us, use the unsubscribe link in any email or tell us through our contact page. To leave the waitlist, withdraw a career-interest registration or ask us to stop using your information for a particular purpose, send a privacy request. We will act on it promptly and will tell you if withdrawing consent affects anything, for example that we can no longer tell you when we open. Withdrawing consent does not affect what we did with your information before you withdrew it.
We send email updates only with your express consent, given by ticking the consent box on our form, in keeping with Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation. Every update includes a link to unsubscribe, and we process unsubscribe requests promptly and within 10 business days. If you unsubscribe, we may still reply to a message you send us, because that is not a marketing email.
Asking to see, correct or delete your information
You may ask us whether we hold personal information about you, to see it and to receive a copy, to correct anything that is inaccurate or incomplete, or to delete it. Use our contact page and choose “Privacy request”. Tell us what you would like, which form you used if you know, and how to reach you. There is no fee. We will respond within 30 days. If we need more time, which Canadian law allows in some cases, we will tell you why and when to expect a reply. If we cannot do what you ask, for example because the law requires us to keep certain records, we will explain why.
Confirming who you are
To protect your information, we will confirm your identity before we act on a request, usually by writing to you at the email address we already have. We will ask only for what we need to confirm it and will use that information only for your request.
Requests about a child
A parent or person responsible may make any of these requests about their child. We may ask you to confirm your relationship to the child before we act, to protect the child. Our children’s data page explains how we treat information about children.
Asking someone to act for you
You may ask someone else, such as a family member or an authorized agent, to make a request for you. We will ask for proof that you have given them permission, and we may still need to confirm your identity with you directly.
If you live in Quebec
Quebec’s privacy law gives you the right to be informed about how your information is used, to see and correct it, to withdraw your consent, to ask us to stop sharing it or to remove links to it where the law allows, and to receive certain information in a structured, commonly used technological format. You may contact our privacy officer through our contact page. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec.
If you live in California or another US state
Hikmah Education is a Canadian organization, and some US state privacy laws may not apply to us. We choose to honour these requests anyway. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose; to receive a copy; to delete it; to correct it; to opt out of its sale or sharing, which we do not do; and to limit the use of sensitive personal information, which we do not use to infer anything about you. We will not treat you differently for exercising these rights. If we decline your request, you may ask us to reconsider by replying to our response.
If you are not satisfied
If you have a concern about how we handled your request or your information, please tell our privacy officer first, through our contact page, so we can try to put it right. You may also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at any time, or, if you live in Quebec, the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec.
